Are you planning a trip to Lake Coeur d’Alene soon? If so, you’ve chosen a great location. There are plenty of things to do in this lake town, from shopping and restaurants to boating and water activities.

One activity that is popular here is paddle boarding. This water sport is perfect for the lake because you can take in stunning views of crystal blue waters, all within minutes of downtown! If you’d like to join in on the fun, here are some places you and the family can paddle board on Lake Coeur d’Alene:

Along The Beaches

The best part of downtown Coeur d’Alene is the abundance of public beaches. No matter where you are, you’re within minutes of the water!

Paddle Board Downtown

The best beach to enjoy for paddle boarding is right next to the Coeur d’Alene Resort. There is public parking available as well as plenty of beach space for chairs, towels, etc. You can bring the whole family down and enjoy an entire day on the water. The waves are typically calm here so you’ll be able to take the paddle boards out and explore the shoreline down to the mouth of the Spokane River.

Sanders Beach Paddle Boarding

If you want to get away from downtown, there’s a great place on the north end of the lake known as Sanders Beach just on the other side of Tubbs Hill. This area is much less crowded and perfect for those who prefer a quieter atmosphere. There is plenty of parking along the roads nearby and the beach access is easy. The waves here are also typically calm so you can enjoy a leisurely paddle around the shoreline.

Paddleboard Around Tubbs Hill

Are you looking for a bit of an adventure? Then you should consider paddle boarding around Tubbs Hill. Also located right next to the Coeur d’Alene Resort, Tubbs Hills is a great destination for adventurers and hikers. When accessing Tubbs Hill from the water you can often find secluded beaches that are too difficult to get to from the trail systems. All beaches along Tubbs are public, so pull up and take a dip.

Paddle Boarding From Higgens Point

Higgens Point is not technically downtown, so you’ll have to drive a few minutes. However, it is well worth the visit!

Located on the north shore of Lake Coeur d’Alene, along Coeur d’Alene Lake Drive, Higgens Point is a stunning beach that offers calm waters and an intimate beach. During the winter, this location is prime for bald eagles. During the summer, families, and boaters like to sit along the shore and enjoy the peace and quiet of nature away from the hustle and bustle of downtown.

Being the peaceful area that it is, most of the time the water here is calm and perfect for paddling around. If you want to take a longer trip, you can access the lake from Higgens Point and head off on an adventure of your own.

Beauty Bay

Beauty Bay is a local favorite because of its notoriously calm waters, hence its name. It’s situated right across the lake from Higgens Point and is best accessed by boat. To go paddle boarding, just strap the boards to the boat and take a quick, 20-minute ride out to the bay. Then, pick a spot and get to paddling. It’s that easy!

The Spokane River

If you are looking for something that will be a bit more challenging,  try paddle boarding down the Spokane River. This popular route starts along the NIC beaches and borders the Centennial Trail. Paddlers can take in views of the surrounding mountains, downtown Coeur d’Alene, and even a few wildlife sightings along the way!

* Please note: Resort Boat Rentals does not allow any equipment, including boats, paddle boards, etc to be used on the Spokane River.
