There are also plenty of activities available here, including hiking, fishing, and boating. So if you’re looking for a fun day or weekend trip, be sure to check out Higgens Point!

The Higgens Point Hike

This is a great hike to do with the family while you visit the area. It’s a brief 0.9-mile out and back trail that offers some amazing scenery of Lake Coeur d’Alene and the surrounding hills and valleys.

The best times and seasons to do this trail are in late spring, all summer, and early fall. Overall, a great short hike for you to spend some of your day.

What Fun Can I Have at Higgens?

There’s a plethora of activities to have fun with out here, and most of them are outdoors. These are best enjoyed in CDA’s beautiful summer weather.

Boating

Higgens Point is not only a beautiful outlook on Lake Coeur d’Alene but it’s also a functional boat launch and dock. So if you’re hoping to spend the day out on the east side of the lake near Beauty Bay, this may be the perfect spot for you to put the boat in the water or stop by for a visit.

Launch fees are $5 with parking included and overnight moorage is $10. Don’t wait all day to go, though, because this launch is a popular one and will get busy fast.

Swimming

Looking to take a nice swim in the lake while visiting Higgens Point? Good news, it’s the perfect spot for it! Being on the far east side of the lake, boat traffic is light and therefore, so are the wakes. Thus, you and your family can enjoy a peaceful afternoon along the shore and go swimming in near-perfect, wake-free water. Your furry friends can even join you, just make sure to pick up after them.

Hiking

Higgens Point is located near the Centennial Trail, which means you’ll discover beautiful walking routes that will take you around the lake. Take pictures of the water or get up close and personal with nature while out with friends and family. You could even catch a glimpse of a few bald eagles as they migrate to Lake Coeur d’Alene during the winter!

Wildlife Watching

Higgens is a bit more secluded than other parts of CDA, so you may get lucky and see way more wildlife! You will most likely see more birds, deer, and possibly eagles! Keep your eyes peeled and bring a good pair of binoculars to spice up your visit.

Other Water Sports

If none of those interest you, you can spend a day here paddleboarding or kayaking! The water is perfect for it and is generally calmer than out towards the center of the lake.
