For locals and tourists alike, there’s always something new to learn about Lake Coeur d’Alene! There’s plenty of space to explore, with nearly 50 square miles of water! If you’re looking to get out on one of North Idaho’s best lakes to do some boating, we’ve compiled a list of the best bays on Lake Coeur d’Alene. Whether you rent a boat for
the day or buy a boat to explore for years to come, here are few spots that should be on your Lake Coeur d’Alene bucket list:

Wolf Lodge Bay

We’ll start from the north end of the lake and work our way south. Wolf Lodge Bay lies at the northeastern end of Lake Coeur d’Alene, where Interstate 90 meets State Route 97 (on land). This is one of our favorite bays for several reasons. First, it’s pretty close to the city of Coeur d’Alene. It’s also home to Higgens Point, a favorite place to pull out of the water on public docks during the summer or watch bald eagles feeding in the winter. It’s one of the best things to do in Coeur d’Alene!

Beauty Bay

This bay is off the south end of Wolf Lodge Bay. This area is extremely protected, making it a favorite for moorings. You can also access the Mineral Ridge Scenic Area  and hiking trails, including the Beauty Creek Trailhead, which leads hikers to some great views at the top of the ridge.

Mica Bay

Travelling a little south and to the west side of the lake, you’ll find Mica Bay. With a public boat launch and the Mica Bay Boaters Park, this is a favorite spot to put in, take out or spend the night. There are 16 tent camping sites, two mooring docks, swimming beach, picnic tables and shelters, toilets, drinking water and a playground. Plan to pack a picnic lunch or even your sleeping bag if you’re going to visit Mica Bay!

Carlin Bay

A little more south is Carlin Bay, a great destination if you have a little more time. This sheltered bay is home to the Lodge at Carlin Bay, a family-friendly restaurant with plans to expand to guest rooms, cabins and RV hook ups in the future.

Harrison Slough

While technically not a bay, we couldn’t end our list without mentioning the “Harrison Slough.” This area is toward the southern end of 26-mile-long Lake Coeur d’Alene, and is home to the quaint town of Harrison. This lakeside town is a great destination to get gas, grab a bite, stretch your legs or snag some ice cream. The locals consider it one of the best things to do in Coeur d’Alene.
